Marie Veronique is a small batch producer and pioneer in clean, microbiome-friendly, efficacious topicals for skin health. Our products support skin health for every skin type and tone — acne, dryness, symptomatic skin, and more — with a particular emphasis on the science of age delay.
Founded in Berkeley, California in 2002, the genesis of our brand was our belief that the skin is inherently whole and resourceful on its own, with an innate quest to heal and to be in balance. This sophisticated, naturally-sustaining organ has evolved over millennia, and, contrary to what you might hear in other places, it does not need to be changed or fixed; our approach is to support it.
The skincare industry has a notoriously bad track record of selling products by making people feel inadequate, and we are dedicated to cutting through the hyped up marketing claims, unfounded trends, and scare tactics that have historically defined it. It’s important to counter misinformation with real information!

Our holistic approach considers not just what you put on your skin; it includes a focus on your entire body as a series of systems that work together. We draw from the latest scientific research as well as our knowledge of Biomedicine, Western Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and other holistic health modalities. As scientists and formulators by trade, we are driven by curiosity and fascination – and we dive deep into what it means for a product to be truly effective.
The reality is that it’s quite easy to make skincare products; it’s much harder to make exceptional ones that truly support the skin. Technically complex topicals are our specialty and our creative approach to formulation reflects both the latest findings from the evolving science of skin health and the results from our comprehensive work directly with clients.
Fostering strong relationships is at the heart of everything we do. The words “customer care” really mean something to us. Not only do we make great products, but we take the time to educate our customers on how to achieve and maintain their healthiest skin.
The same care goes into our relationships with partners and suppliers – we make a point to collaborate with others who are equally dedicated to understanding and supporting skin health. Nurturing an ecosystem of like-minded voices is another way we help our clients – we believe that working together we can achieve something greater than what any one of us could alone.
Our ability to produce the most effective, highest quality products is directly connected to our ability to adhere to our values. We are as devoted to the health of Mother Earth as we are to skin health, and we are acutely aware that the decisions we make every day as a business have an impact.
For example, we are extremely judicious when sourcing ingredients, and we make everything we are capable of doing in house, seeking out partners with our same high standards. We have always made conscious choices to reduce or eliminate packaging; years ago we opted to forego outer packaging by putting our ingredients on the bottles products come in, which wasn’t popular at the time. We also decided to use glass bottles instead of plastic, and recycled materials for our shipping packaging.
Ultimately this is about more than just business: it’s about creating a world that more closely resembles the one we want to live in. One in which all of us – consumers and companies alike – are being thoughtful about the downstream effects of our actions and asking ourselves hard questions about what is convenient or purely profit-driven vs. what is ethically responsible.
Our team is proudly female-founded and led. Our Founder is Marie Veronique Nadeau, the chemist and inventor who started the company, and continues her quest for skin health innovation and drives R&D and product formulation. Marie is a legend who has earned her place as one of the skincare industry’s most distinct and treasured voices. We all benefit from her humor, curiosity, and, most of all, her perspective on aging from the vantage point of her seventh decade.
Our Co-Founder Kristy-Moore Jeffress joined in 2014 with a strong vision for forging a new kind of purpose-driven skincare company that helps people understand and care for their skin from an authentic and genuine perspective. Beauty, in fact, is a fundamental part of the human experience that has much more to do with biology and connection to others than it does with looking a certain way. She collaborates with Marie on R&D and is our guiding light for Mission, Vision, and Brand.
Kristina Holey, who began collaborating with the brand in 2018, joined full time in 2021 as Marie Veronique’s Director of Skin Health, with a focus on education. Kristina brings a unique background as a trained scientist, esthetician, and holistic skin specialist with a wealth of experience helping clients find a path to healing.
